So this should be the last straw for every “P”rogressive in the California Democratic Party. In the 2005-2006 legislative session, Senator Kuehl introduced SB 840. The bill passed in both houses, and California was about to become the first state in U.S. history to pass single-payer legislation. However, the bill was vetoed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Then again in 2009 the bill passed the appropriate committees in both the senate and assembly but was never brought to the floor.
Then after Sentate Bill 562, a very similar bill to SB 840 that was vetoed by Schwarzenegger in 2006, cleared both the Senate in 2017, it was pulled on Friday by Assembly leader Anthony Rendon. The Los Angeles Times (the rag of record for Southern California) gave Rendon’s motives as follows:
“Rendon announced late Friday afternoon that the bill, Senate Bill 562 by state Sens. Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) and Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), would not advance to a policy hearing in his house, making it all but certain the measure will not be acted upon this year.
“SB 562 was sent to the Assembly woefully incomplete,” Rendon said in a statement. “Even senators who voted for SB 562 noted there are potentially fatal flaws in the bill, including the fact it does not address many serious issues, such as financing, delivery of care, cost controls, or the realities of needed action by the Trump administration and voters to make SB 562 a genuine piece of legislation.””
It wasn’t brought to the floor 2009 and it was pulled while in the Rules Committee on Friday so that Governor Brown wouldn’t be put in the uncomfortable position of vetoing it. DISGUSTING!
They loved making Arnold look like the big meanie but the pussies, the corrupt spineless pussies who run both houses and the executive branch in California didn’t want to show the world what a hyprocritical little shit Brown is. If you are a Progressive in the CA Democratic Party espousing an “inside/outside” party it is time to “pull out” and stop prostituting yourselves for the establishment/deep state.
